Intergenerational Daycare
This project was a group project that was completed as the final assignment for my Studio II course. The assignment was to take a set floor plan and design an intergenerational daycare center where both preschoolers and elderly would spend the day. There needed to be separate spaces for each age group as well as joint spaces for intergenerational interaction. The images below are a result of a group effort to create a unique space for preschool children and elderly adults to coexist and interact to better the mental health of all involved. The renderings were the rooms I designed, and the floor plan and spatial planning were produced by the entire group.
Concept.
We wanted to unite distant generations through biophilic design and frame a relationship with nature and exploration. We utilized natural light throughout the building with large windows and sliding patio doors. We brought in very natural materials everywhere, from the flooring to the furniture upholstery. We chose to have multi-level spaces in the library and fitness center in order to create interest and increase floor area.
